Campaign Make An Impact

The Galleries of Justice Museum in Nottingham has been chosen as the East Midlands regional champion for the British Library led ‘Campaign! Make an Impact’ (CMAI) programme. The project works in partnership with museums, libraries and Archives and focuses sessions around history and citizenship. It is an innovative approach which inspires young people and gets them thinking about historical or current campaigns using heritage, archive and library collections as a starting point. With the skills they learn on the programme, the young people then plan and run their own campaign about issues which affect them today.

The project raises their self esteem and aspirations and has been particularly effective with children from economically deprived backgrounds. CMAI has developed a new way of working for museums and shows how museums, libraries and archives can actively support schools; this programme also relates to the Every Child Matters agenda.

In our champion role we run CPD days and support other Museums, Archives and Libraries to utilise their collections to inspire young people to get involved.  We have previously worked with a group of young people here at the Galleries of Justice Museum, to produce a film. They gained a variety of skills whilst filmmaking including team work and negotiation that enabled them to put together a digital video that could impact the lives of thousands of young people across the Country.
