NCCL provides a programme of activities for all learners using the unique and historic spaces and collections offered by the Galleries of Justice Museum. We create, deliver and manage these activities for learners in primary, secondary and further education.
For primary schools
Our primary school offer is tailored mainly towards upper Key Stage 2 pupils, but we have recently added mock trials to introduce pupils in the lower Key Stage 2 years to the courtroom setting and the criminal justice system. Primary pupils can participate in our fantastic Crime & Punishment tour, handle real objects from the past, take part in a mock trial, experience a WW2 or Reform School lesson, or explore a Victorian slum!
We've also recently created a new Early Years programme. Click here to find out more.
For secondary schools
Key Stage 3, 4, and 5 pupils have the chance to explore history and citizenship-based issues through historical and contemporary mock trials, follow up mock trial debates, a Crime & Punishment tour of the Gaol and HM Prison Service Collection, various talks with museum staff, and an exploration of our temporary exhibitions.
For further education providers
FE and HE groups can participate in performance, audio or facilitated tours of the Gaol and HM Prison Service Collction, a mock trial to experience the workings of a courtroom, facilitated debates on particular mock trials or punishments, and various talks with museum staff. We also have a workshop where pupils can explore real case studies from the archive collection held at the Galleries of Justice Museum.
